Teeth Whitening at Daniel Tebbi, DMD Cosmetic Dentistry

Teeth discoloration is quite common and is often caused due to improper oral hygiene. They may also discolor due to excessive consumption of colored foods, smoking cigarettes, chewing tobacco, excessive consumption of alcohol, oral infections, etc. No matter what the cause is, discolored teeth make your smile look quite hideous and can lead to embarrassment when someone mocks you.

Why is the solution?

Getting rid of the stains from the teeth’ surfaces is quite simple and can be done in a short span of time. The procedure is called teeth whitening and is carried out using a whitening gel. The gel contains Hydrogen Peroxide, a chemical bleaching compound used in almost all teeth whitening products. The dentist applies the gel on the teeth, allows it to stay for a few minutes, and rinses it off. You will be left with whiter teeth, which you can flaunt when you smile.

How does a whitening gel work?

The magic of a whitening gel lies in its constituents. Hydrogen Peroxide gets activated when applied on the teeth. It releases oxygen molecules in abundance, which penetrate the porous structure of the teeth and bleach the staining particles. The gel can be rinsed off, and the procedure can be repeated multiple times to get a better level of whitening.

What are my options?

Conventional whitening: It is the most widely preferred and simplest means of teeth whitening. It is performed in-house by a dentist after we determine your candidacy for teeth whitening. It provides great results without altering the structure of the teeth.

At-home teeth whitening: The dentist provides customized whitening trays and a whitening gel to take home. You can clean the teeth and put on the whitening trays with a small amount of whitening gel squeezed in them. The trays keep the gel in continuous contact with the teeth and prevent the saliva from interfering.

Laser teeth whitening: Laser is used in teeth whitening to activate the gel and speed up the process. Upon activation, the gel produces a foam composed of oxygen molecules. The best part about this whitening option is that it can be completed quickly, and the results last for a long time.
