Sleep is an important and integral part of our everyday lives. The biggest importance of sleep is that it helps the body relax from an entire day’s work. Also, the cells of the body grow better while the person is at sleep. Naturally, we feel fresher and full of energy after having a good night’s shut-eye.
But, not all of us are lucky enough to have quality sleep every single night. Certain sleep disorders can upset one’s sleeping cycles to such as extent that they would have a significant impact on the individual’s physical and mental health. If ignored and left untreated for a long time, they can take a serious toll on one’s overall health.
Some of the common sleep disorders are sleep apnea, snoring, and bruxism.
- Sleep apnea: It is a condition characterized by short pauses in breathing, inability to breathe due to blockage of the airway, collapse of tissues from the throat, malfunctioning of the brain with regard to sending appropriate signals to the lungs, etc. Patients are usually woken up in the middle of their sleep with a sudden jolt due to the inability to breathe.
- Snoring: Snoring occurs due to the vibrations of the tissues of the throat and airway while breathing. Snoring is quite annoying, especially to the bedmates of the person who snores. Most people wouldn’t even know that they snore during sleep, which could delay the treatment.
- Bruxism: Bruxism in simple words is night-time teeth grinding. Patients suffering from bruxism often clench their jaws and grind their teeth while sleeping, which is completely subconscious. It can result in worn out teeth, TMJ disorder, headaches, pain in the jaws, etc.
Depending on the type and severity of the condition, we would conduct a thorough diagnosis and suggest the right treatment method to counter the disorder.
